Book Swim

Busy bar

Nearing the first month of service, Maude’s regularly hums with diners. Each night, new faces are reflected in the opulent mirrors and illuminated by the delicate candlelight. While faces change, there’s cozy consistency and familiarity at Maude’s; one of our favorite, unchanging details are the bookcases upstairs. Stacked with Shakespeare volumes and old French books, they serve as a reminder that there’s nothing like reading a classic novel for the first time.

Given our propensity for appreciating simple, but thoughtful pleasures, we were smitten with Book Swim. It’s like Netflix for books!! Perhaps it’s a subconscious backlash to the Kindles and i Pads that populate our worlds, but there’s something undeniably wonderful about turning a page, the smell of an old book, or hearing the creak of the binding as the book opens. Enough said. Here’s how Book Swim works:

A new addition to the dessert menu: raw chunks of chocolate

You pick your membership plan and select your titles
Book Swim will ship the books to you. You keep them as long as you’d like. No late fees or due dates.
When you’re finished you return the books in a pre-paid envelope that Book Swim provides.
It’s the perfect fix for those of us who like to read the old-school way: with pages you touch to turn. Like a visit to Maude’s, reading a good book is a full sensory experience. For more information, visit:
